We remember...

"Grab your ticket and your suitcase
  Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back

  Big Wheels rolling through fields
  Where the morning sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams..."
                          - Bruce Springsteen

While at Amador, Steve had a circle of close friends, but being somewhat of a wrestling "legend", just about everyone knew "who" he was. Dominant in the 105 pound weight class for nearly his entire high school career, Steve's athletic legacy will not soon be forgotten, by peers or opponents.

"Off the mat", Steve was a quiet, confident guy who moved at a brisk pace; always with a kind word and usually a good joke. But that's not to say Steve was reserved because nothing could be further from the truth. Steve loved to push the envelope and strived for the ultimate in everything he did.

In 1982, Steve married classmate Kathy Nelson, who came to Amador via New Jersey during their Junior year. Kathy recalls their first meeting:

"I didn't really know Steve in high school. My only memory of him was the day he almost hit me with his car (twice) and then Howard Harrow came right behind him on his motorcycle to repeat. Maybe they thought it was funny to see me running in heels for my life. I never did learn to "appreciate" his driving....wonder why?"

After graduating from college, Steve and Kathy had three children; Jeremy ('82), Katrina ('85) and Jennifer ('90) and lived in San Jose and Tracy before settling in Woodbridge, a unique, quaint little community adjacent to Lodi, California. Steve passed away on September 14, 1997. Kathy and their two daughters still live in the family home.

A partner in three career endevours (which he also managed), Steve was as fiercely competitive in business and in the goals that he set for himself throughout his life as he was on the wrestling mat. He maintained his quick, sometimes wicked sense of humor and would often tell long stories during which the listeners would have to ask Steve to stop so they could catch their breath from laughing.

Driven though he was, Steve always enjoyed life to the fullest. He belonged to the Stockton Water Ski Club and at the time of his passing was preparing to test for his 3rd degree black belt. He mountain biked, snow skied, snowmobiled, rode motorcycles and drove fast cars and loved to camp and travel.

Being with and around Steve was NEVER a dull moment!!
