We remember...

Donna Guglielmo.gif (4383 bytes)

"Shall I compare thee to a summers day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
But never was her gold complexion dimmed..."

                               -William Shakespeare

There are as many ways to describe Donna Guglielmo Pitta as there are positive adjectives in the English language; bright and funny, caring and compassionate, intelligent, witty, energetic and spirited are but a few.

But it is in her capacity as a friend by which Donna may most often be remembered. Her compassion, understanding and uncanny ability to help those in turmoil find that "silver lining" within the grey clouds of life; her knack for making both the best and the worst of days seem a little brighter...it was that part of Donna which made all who knew her grateful to have received such a blessing.

Donna's heart and spirit will always be with us, but now, even the sunniest of summer days seem a little less brilliant that she is gone from this Earth...

Donna was a step above...
I had so much fun with Donna. "Gug" had a maturity that most of us didn't in high school, and she had a knack for being extemely efficient and organized while loving every minute of what ever it was she was doing. It's safe to say she was passionate about her choices in life.

I remember being in Leadership with Donna, and she always had a clipboard in her hands. She'd be writing furiously, and I'd think to myself what did I miss?  Invariably, after class she'd have new ideas for a rally, or how something could be done differently to make it better. And all the while smiling. As though she had "aha" moments all the time.

One year, Donna enlisted Cheryl Guest and I to take stats for the baseball team. Now, of course never having played softball seriously, or even watching baseball on TV very often, I was pretty intimidated. But she said it would be fun, and easy. Well I was a nervous wreck the entire season, but I have to say, even now, I know what a backwards K is, and if it weren't for Donna there are a whole bunch of experiences I'd never embarked upon if it weren't for her encouragement.

She made just about every day a little better...
One always feels a loss when someone you know passes away, but for me that's especially true where Donna is concerned.

When I first heard the news and again now as I sit here writing this, I can not for the life of me recall ever having seen her without that big, vibrant smile beaming from ear to ear; never once in a mood that prevented her from spreading a little of that "Gug" sunshine around.

She was truly some of God's best work and one of the finest people I've been blessed to have known.

Donna was taken far too soon, but oh, how she made such good use of the time she had while she was here...and made the lives of the people who knew her (and especially during her years at Amador) even more spectacular and memorable.
